MOOC pioneer Dr Rebecca Ferguson announced as Enhancement Conference keynote presenter

QAA Scotland is delighted to announce that Dr Rebecca Ferguson, Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Educational Technology (IET) at The Open University will give keynote presentation at the Enhancement Conference on 7 June.

The lecture titled Future possibilities: analytics and enhancement will explore the ways in which learning analytics can help identify and make sense of patterns in education data in order to enhancement our teaching, learning and the student experience.

Dr Ferguson’s undertaken significant research in the area of educational futures, with her work in learning analytics being influential in driving enhancements to strategy and pedagogical practice. Rebecca’s primary research interests are educational futures and how people learn together online. She is lead author of the Innovating Pedagogy reports, which explore new forms of teaching, learning and assessment in order to guide educators and policy makers around the world. Rebecca has been a pedagogic adviser to the FutureLearn MOOC platform since its foundation, supporting its development of conversational learning.

Her extensive experience of MOOC development and evaluation provide a firm basis for her research on learning at scale. She is academic coordinator of the FutureLearn Academic Network, linking academics from over 110 partner institutions around the world. She is also an executive member of the Society for Learning Analytics Research and a leading member of the international learning analytics community. Her work has been influential in shaping the field, supporting implementation across Europe, and promoting a focus on social learning analytics. More information on Rebecca’s work can be found at:

Registration for the Conference is now full but those of you unable to attend you will be able to watch Dr Ferguson’s lecture live through the Enhancement Themes youtube channel from 09:10am – 10:05am (BST) on Thursday 7 June 2018.  Dr Camille Kandiko Howson’s keynote lecture Using Learning Gain as Evidence for Enhancement will also be live streamed rom 2.40pm-3.40pm (BST).
