Graduates for the 21st Century - Activities
The work of the G21C Theme is being conducted in three broad phases:
Institutional Activities
Areas of shared interest
Sectoral Activities
Institutional Activities
Each University has put in place an institutional team to take forward and coordinate the work of the Theme within their institution. Informed by internal considerations of graduate attributes, the intention here is for the team to align the work of the previous Themes with its particular institutional priorities and implementation plans. Details of individual institutional activities can be viewed below:

Areas of shared interest
The G21C Theme will help institutions in sharing and learning from enhancement approaches from across the whole spectrum of HEIs in Scotland and, as with previous Themes, from approaches outside Scotland. HEIs will form clusters of common interest around particular Themes, facilitating discussion and the possible development of collaborative projects across HEIs. For each of the Themes, we have appointed Facilitators to refresh, refocus and integrate each of the completed Enhancement Themes and to take forward the following three broad areas of work:
- Working with institutions, to support institutional and inter-institutional work
- Events and activities, to support the sector
- Writing, to build a resource for use by the sector

Sectoral Activities
The main focus of the Theme is on supporting HEI activities to utilise, build on and integrate the outcomes of previous Themes (according to their particular teaching and learning priorities). This will be done within the broad consideration of the type of graduates attributes necessary for the 21st Century; and the likely needs of the increasingly diverse range of learners in the achievement of such attributes.
These activities/discussions will take place at several levels: within individual HEIs, across the sector and disciplines and also with contributions from external perspectives.
Symposium series
It is proposed that a number of sectoral events with key contributors will be held throughout the course of the Theme. Outcomes of these events will be fed into institutional discussions.
Potential contributions to such events could include, employers, discipline communities, international contributors, perspectives on societal changes, students and the school sector to name a few.
The annual Enhancement Themes Conference provides the first key sectoral event to feed into such periodic consolidation with contributions from the school sector and, world of research and employers.
