International Benchmarking: Student Support Services
The work of the SHEEC International Benchmarking project has sought to inform teaching and learning practice in Scotland by looking at practice in other countries. Student support was identified as being the area that should be investigated as a pilot for a cycle of disciplinary areas over the period 2008 - 2012.
The overall aims of the work has been to:
- help support the Scottish higher education sector in comparing with and learning from practice internationally,
- establish a range of useful resources for HEIs, Student Associations and practitioners;
- establish links with and share with centres of practice internationally.
The work is drawing to its conclusion and has resulted in the following outcomes:
- A report benchmarking practice in Scotland against practice internationally.
- Report of the Study Tour to Denmark and Sweden in June 2009 (draft format)
- A report which surveys international practice in student support “Supporting student success: Scoping other UK and international developments”
- Case studies of practice in student support collected from Scottish higher education institutions. The case studies will be maintained as a resource for the sector and added to and updated as necessary.
- A sector-wide conference held in November 2008 involving international contributors and participation from all HEIs across Scotland.
