Julia Fotheringham is a Senior Teaching Fellow and Senior Fellow of the HEA. She is Programme Leader for the PG Cert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and PDT and Module Leader for several modules on the MSc Blended and Online Education (BOE). The core PG Certificate modules of the MSc Blended and Online Education and the PG Cert TLHE are recognised by SEDA. The PG Cert TLHE and an HE Pathway through the PG Cert BOE are accredited by the HEA at Descriptor level 2 of the UK PSF. Julia is responsible for the co-ordination of the qualifications routes to Fellowship of the HEA through ENRoute.
As representative for Office of the Vice Principle (OVP) for Faculty of Engineering, Computing & Creative Industries, Julia works with Assistant Deans to support excellence in learning, teaching and assessment at Faculty and School level. Working with colleagues in OVP and throughout the institution to lead, embed and support the development of excellence in learning, teaching and assessment practice by participating in a range of activities throughout the University and in the wider sector. These activities include informal one-to-one sessions, delivery of workshops relating to LTA, participating in working and planning groups, contributing to School and programme team activities, encouraging innovation and disseminating practice, particularly in relation to blended and online learning, by presenting at conferences and writing for publication.
Julia works on various strands of activity relating to the QAA Enhancement Themes. She will be working closely with Mark Huxham (Director of Academic Strategy) in leading the new enhancement theme: Student Transitions. Work begins on that theme in Autumn 2014 and will continue for three years.
Student support in blended and online education and in the transition of students from HE to FE is a particular research interest, and forms the focus of her PhD study.
