Robert Gordon University developed an overview map of student transitions. This highlighted key stakeholders, issues, current support and potential opportunities for student transitions. The University
created a new lecturer post to help build engagement with the Theme. A student internship was also recruited to investigate transition issues from a student point of view. Through a scoping exercise the University decided on three areas of activity,
- cross-University – areas identified through the University’s strategy and the outcomes of institutional processes, such as the national Student Survey and internal monitoring
- discipline – areas of relevance to staff at school and course level
- students – helping students to become better prepared and more resilient, including student to student support.
In year two of the Theme the University focused on supporting student who commute, January intakes and distance learning. In the final year, the University explored transitions out of the university and employability. The University will also continue
to enhance the transitions of students through the ‘Access To’ programme. This seeks to widen participation for students who are often under-represented in universities.
