
Progression and retention data in Scottish HEIs annual monitoring processes

This project focuses on the use of progression and retention data in the annual monitoring processes used by Scottish higher education institutions (HEIs). The report contains the following information: • the approach to using data in annual monitoring processes across Scottish HEIs and trends in practices • the data sets considered in annual monitoring, especially those relating to progression and retention • with clear identification of the kinds of decisions the data is used to support, eg how is annual monitoring data used to identify, prioritise and evaluate interventions to enhance the student experience • to what extent students with different characteristics are included in annual monitoring data • the advice/guidance/support available to staff in undertaking annual monitoring activity with particular reference to the use of data • how institutions align annual monitoring with other activities • how institutions engage students with/how students engage with annual monitoring, and to what extent students are involved in evaluating the data.
